Privacy Policy for Project Voice

Last updated: September 5, 2026

Project Voice ("the App", "we", "us") is a picture and word-based communication app (AAC — augmentative and alternative communication) intended to help people who are non-verbal or find spoken language difficult express themselves. Many people who use the App are children, or are non-verbal or have a disability, and may not be able to read or agree to this policy themselves. This policy is written for the parent, carer, educator, allied health professional or other adult who sets the App up on their behalf — please read it before adding a profile, photo or PIN for someone in your care.

Information You Enter Into the App

The App is entirely form- and profile-based. Everything it stores is entered directly by the person setting it up, including:

This can be sensitive information, particularly photos of children and information that may reveal a person's communication needs or disability. Please only add what is needed for the App to be useful, and follow your own organisation's or family's policies on photos of children where relevant.

Where Your Information Is Stored

Everything you enter stays on this device. The App has no server, no account system tied to us, and does not transmit profiles, photos, PINs or usage data anywhere. We (the developer) never receive, see, or have access to anything you or the person you support enters into the App.

Profiles, photos, PINs and vocabulary data are stored in your device's local browser storage. A PIN is never stored as plain text — it is salted and hashed on the device before being saved, so even someone with access to the raw stored data cannot read the original PIN back out. Where the device supports it and biometric sign-in is turned on, biometric unlock uses your device's own fingerprint/face recognition hardware (via the operating system, not us) to protect access — we never receive your fingerprint, face data, or any biometric information itself.

Because everything lives only on this device: if you uninstall the App, clear its site data, or lose the device without a backup, profiles, photos and vocabulary are gone and cannot be recovered by us — we don't hold a copy. Where the App offers an export or backup feature, use it to keep your own copy, and store that file securely since it is not encrypted.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not operate any server that receives data from the App. The App contains no advertising SDK, no analytics or tracking SDK, and makes no network requests of any kind — it works fully offline, which also means it works reliably in places with no signal or Wi-Fi. We do not collect your name, email address, precise location, contacts, or device identifiers, and we do not receive photos, PINs, biometric data, or vocabulary/usage information from any device running the App.

Camera and Photo Access

If you choose to add a profile photo or a photo of a familiar person, the App asks your device for permission to use the camera or photo gallery at that moment. Photos are saved only to this device's local storage for display inside the App — they are never uploaded, shared, or sent to us. You can remove a photo at any time by editing or deleting the relevant profile.

Children's Privacy

Project Voice is commonly set up and managed by a parent, carer, teacher or allied health professional on behalf of a child, including children who may be non-verbal or have a disability and cannot themselves consent to or manage their own information. We rely on that adult to decide what information (including photos) is appropriate to add, consistent with their own family's or organisation's policies, and to manage device and profile access. We do not knowingly collect any information directly from children ourselves, because the App does not transmit information to us at all — everything stays on the device the adult controls.

Purchases and Subscriptions

Where the App is offered as a one-time purchase or through a subscription plan (including any school or organisation-wide plan), purchases are billed and managed through Google Play Billing. Google, not us, processes your payment and handles your payment details — we do not receive or store card details. Google Play shares with us only that a purchase or subscription is active, so the App can unlock the relevant features. You can manage or cancel a subscription, and view billing history, at any time in Google Play > Subscriptions on your device. If a subscription lapses, no profiles, photos or vocabulary are deleted — only any subscription-only features are switched off.

Data Retention and Deletion

Profiles, photos, PINs and vocabulary stay on the device until deleted inside the App, or until the App is uninstalled or its storage is cleared. Because we hold no copy of anything, we cannot delete, recover, or provide a copy of this information on your behalf — please use the App's own profile management and any built-in backup/export tools.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
